The recently released 2027 Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D proposed rule would make policy and technical changes to the MA and Part D programs for 2027 and beyond. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a variety of changes affecting the Star Ratings quality measurement and bonus payment system, marketing and communications, special needs plan (SNP) requirements, and more. Several proposals could have implications for providers who care for patients enrolled in MA, especially providers engaged in value-based payment arrangements with MA plans.
This +Insight describes provisions from the recent MA and Part D proposed rule with implications for providers. Many other proposals included in the rule will affect a broader range of stakeholders. Anyone considering submitting comments in response to the rule has until January 26, 2026, to do so. CMS will consider the input in developing the final rule for 2027, which is expected to be released in early April 2026.
