On May 7, 2014, CMS posted a final rule making regulatory changes in response to Executive Order 13563, “Improving Regulation and Regulatory Review.” In January 2011, the President issued that Executive Order directing all federal agencies to identify and modify obsolete or inefficient regulatory requirements. HHS issued an implementation plan in August 2011, and then CMS issued two final rules on May 16, 2012. CMS proposed additional changes on February 7, 2013.
This final rule which impacts ASCs, hopsitals, labs and other provider types, is a continuation of those efforts. It is estimated that the reforms in this rule will save nearly $600 million annually. The full details of the Final Rule can be found here.
