Expanded Access to Virtual Care During the Pandemic

Telehealth has played a valuable role in maintaining patient access to care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Analysis by McDermott+Consulting shows that relaxing originating site and geographic restrictions helped more than 14 million Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries receive care via telehealth in 2020. Patient groups that are more likely to use telehealth include dual eligible beneficiaries, patients who previously had high rates of emergency room use and beneficiaries who previously or currently qualify for Medicare through disability.
