GAO Report on CMS Innovation Center, Model Implementation and Performance

April 30, 2018


The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report on the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center) and their work to test payment and delivery options.  As of March 1, 2018, the Innovation Center had implemented 37 models that test new payment and delivery models designed to improve quality and reduce spending.  The Innovation Center indicated that it plans to continue developing voluntary models and highlighted prescription drugs, Medicare Advantage, mental and behavioral health, and program integrity as potential areas for model development.
