CPT Editorial Panel Considers the Establishment of MACRA-related Modifiers at June 2017 Meeting

The American Medical Association (AMA) CPT® Editorial Panel posted the Proposed Agenda for the June 2017 Panel Meeting. Included on the agenda are two MACRA-related coding proposals.

Patient Relationship Modifiers: This is a proposal to create 5 modifiers to describe the clinician relationship to the patient.  The MACRA statute requires the establishment and use of care episode and patient condition groups; and patient relationship categories and codes in the support of the implementation of the Cost Performance Category.

APM Modifiers: This is a proposal to create two modifiers to identify procedures or services provided under an Alternative Payment Model.
