The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be hosting an Open Door Forum conference call to discuss proposed changes to the Open Payments program on Thursday, August 29, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (ET).
Under Open Payments, a statutorily-mandated program, CMS publishes the financial relationships that physicians and teaching hospitals (known as “covered recipients”) have with applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) (known as “reporting entities”). As allowed by the recently enacted Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities (SUPPORT) Act, CMS is proposing to expand the definition of a “covered recipient” to healthcare professionals beyond physicians. CMS is also proposing changes to payment categories and changes related to standardization of data.
