109 Physician Specialty Societies, Large Practice Groups and Patient Advocacy Groups Urge Congress to Remove Part B Drugs from MIPS Payment Adjustment

A collection of 109 organizations representing providers and patients submitted a letter urging Congress to block CMS from applying the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) adjustment to Part B drug payments.

In the 2018 Quality Payment Program Final Rule, CMS clarified that MIPS payment adjustments will be applied to payments for both items and services, including Part B drugs. This policy determination departed from the agency’s historic approach with predecessor quality programs, like PQRS, which only applied to services.

  • The letter is available here.

In November 2017, eleven physician specialty societies sent a letter to members of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees, requesting that those panels also intervene to block the adjustment from being applied to Part B drugs.
