PTAC Update: New Proposal on Remote Specialists and Experts Open for Comment

September 11, 2019

The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) is soliciting comments through October 1, 2019, on a new physician-focused payment model: Remote specialists and experts on demand improving care and saving costs. The model proposes creating organizations of either Regional Referral Centers or a single National Referral Center to provide  remote specialists and experts on demand for specific health issues.

All comments should be addressed to the Designated Federal Officer for PTAC and sent by email to Comments will be posted on the ASPE PTAC website approximately one week after the public comment period closes. Members of the public may also comment on proposals at PTAC public meetings during which PTAC deliberates on proposals. All such meetings and procedures for registering to make public comments will be announced in the Federal Register at least 15 days before such meetings.

Established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), PTAC is tasked with providing comments and recommendations to CMS on physician payment models. The Committee includes 11 members who are nationally recognized for their expertise in physician-focused payment models and related delivery of care.

The McDermottPlus PTAC Proposal Tracker is available here and more information on PTAC is available on their website.
