PTAC Update: Public Meeting and Report on Eye Care Proposal Posted

November 19, 2019

Public Meeting

The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) recently opened registration for the Monday, December 9, 2019, public meeting. Registration for the event is open here.

Preliminary Review Team Report

In preparation for the December meeting, PTAC posted the preliminary review team report for the Eye Care Emergency Department Avoidance proposal submitted by the University of Massachusetts Medical School. This proposal aims to create a pathway for eye care providers to participate in alternative payment models, improve care and reduce unnecessary emergency eye care.

PTAC is scheduled to deliberate and vote on whether the above proposal will be recommended to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for testing. The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 established PTAC to provide recommendations to the HHS Secretary on physician payment models. The statute requires the Secretary to review PTAC’s comments and recommendations on proposals and to post a detailed response to those comments and recommendations on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website. There is no required timeline for the Secretary’s response to PTAC’s comments and recommendations.

Additional information is available on the PTAC website.
