PTAC Update: Committee Recommends Rural Telemedicine Payment Model

The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) held a public meeting on September 16. The Committee voted on a proposed physician-focused payment model: ACCESS Telemedicine: An Alternative Healthcare Delivery Model for Rural Cerebral Emergencies.

The vote resulted in a recommendation to develop and implement the proposed payment model. The next PTAC public meeting is scheduled for December 9-10.

CMS will make the final decision on which models to implement. To date, CMS has not implemented any models recommended by PTAC. A detailed response to the PTAC recommendations will be posted on the CMS website. Models approved by CMS will be implemented by the Innovation Center.

Established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), PTAC is tasked with providing comments and recommendations to CMS on physician payment models. The Committee includes 11 members who are nationally recognized for their expertise in physician-focused payment models and related delivery of care.
