June 11, 2019
On June 3, over 100 national and state medical groups sent a letter to Senators Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), asking for refinements to the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. Specifically, they requested that Congress stop the physician pay freeze from 2020 to 2025, extend the Alternative Payment Model incentive payments for six more years, and allow physicians to focus participation around a specific episode of care or public health priority.
The letter also calls on Congress to give the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services more flexibility to set the Merit-based Incentive Payment System performance threshold and to update the Promoting Interoperability performance category to allow physicians to use multiple types of technology.
