Institute for Medicaid Innovation Survey Finds Medicaid MCOs Are Increasingly Using Value-based Payment Models

October 30, 2018

Results of a survey released by the Institute for Medicaid Innovation (IMI) found around half of Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) launched population-specific value-based purchasing models last year, and around 10 percent of plans had extensive value-based purchasing arrangements in place.

Overall, the Medicaid MCOs that responded to the survey provided health care coverage to more than 20 million Medicaid beneficiaries, representing 44.4 percent of all covered lives enrolled in Medicaid managed care across 34 states.

The report is available here.

Established in 2016, IMI’s vision is to provide independent, unbiased, nonpartisan information and analysis that inform Medicaid policy and improve the health of the nation.
