The Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN) released a new report on alternative payment model (APM) adoption. The LAN collaborated with America’s Health Insurance Plans and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association to gather representative data on the types of payments health plans made to providers in 2017. The report states that 34 percent of payments involve alternative payment models, an increase from 29 percent the year before but well short of the 50 percent goal for the end of 2018.
Medicare Advantage had the most payments in alternative payment models, 49.5 percent, followed by Medicare fee-for-service with 38.3 percent, commercial payers with 28.3 percent and Medicaid at 25 percent.
