HHS Issues RFI Seeking Comments on Strengthening the US Healthcare System

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), alongside the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), have issued a request for information (RFI) to identify opportunities to strengthen the US healthcare system in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Comments are due July 8, 2020.

COVID-19 required the government and healthcare systems to respond in unprecedented ways. As the nation struggled to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, emerging data indicate that the pandemic also resulted in limited access to routine and emergency healthcare services in many, if not most, communities. The intent of the RFI is to gather information on how to enhance the resilience of the US health system during a public health crisis.

Respondents are also asked to define “resilience” during the COVID-19 pandemic, identify appropriate response methods, and detail how they leveraged data analytics to effectively manage their pandemic response.

HHS is seeking comments from stakeholders to identify what practices have provided support during the public health emergency and how the healthcare system has been impacted by the public health emergency. They are also requesting feedback on ways to strengthen the US healthcare system and provide supports to develop public-private partnerships in data sharing and comprehensive analytics.
