The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the request for application (RFA) for participants interested in starting the Direct Contracting model. The application is available here. The application for the Implementation Period closes on February 25, 2020.
The Direct Contracting Model aims to expand participation in performance-based risk contracting. There are currently two voluntary risk-sharing participation options, professional and global. CMS announced a plan to release a third participation option, geographic, at a later date. Through the Direct Contracting model, CMS hopes to encourage more providers to move to two-sided risk, to engage beneficiaries in value-based care models, and to reduce regulatory burden on providers.
CMS will reopen the Letter of Intent for organizations interested in participating in the model. The LOI can be submitted until December 10.
Additional information about the model can be found on the Direct Contracting Model Options website.
