In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, on September 8, the American Medical Association (AMA) released two new Category I Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes effective immediately.
- Code 99072 captures the additional costs of supplies and staff that are necessary to meet COVID-19-related safety protocols and are incurred by practice providing face-to-face medical services. This code is to be reported in conjunction with codes for office-based services.
- Code 86413 describes the recently developed antibody tests that provide quantitative measurements of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, as opposed to a qualitative assessment (positive/negative) of SAR-CoV-2 antibodies provided by laboratory tests reported by other CPT codes.
Additional guidance on report the codes is available here.
