The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released Part C and Part D Star Ratings that provide information about the quality of plan choices. Medicare Advantage plans with prescription drug coverage (MA-PD) are rated on up to 46 quality and performance measures; MA only contracts are rated on up to 34 measures; standalone drug contracts are rated on up to 14 measures. Approximately 45 percent of MA-PDs that will be offered in 2019 earned 4 or more stars (out of 5). Nearly 74 percent of MA-PD enrollees are currently in contracts with 4 or more stars in 2019. Approximately 31 percent of prescription drug plans that will be active in 2019 received 4 or more stars in their 2019 rating. Nearly 3.5 percent of enrollees in standalone drug plans are in contracts with 4 or more stars. Most enrollees in standalone drug plans are in 3.5 star contracts.
