As part of a larger campaign to inform the public about accountable care organizations (ACOs), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) launched a new toolkit highlighting how ACOs and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) seamless care organizations (ESCOs) engage beneficiaries. This toolkit includes an overview of ACO programs within Medicare, as well as case studies by existing ACOs and ESCOs.
ACOs are groups of clinicians who voluntarily partner to provide high quality, coordinated care to Medicare beneficiaries. With the increase care coordination, there is often cost savings; savings that ACO providers share with the Medicare program. As CMS releases toolkits and case studies highlighting lessons learned from ACOs, the agency aims to improve the awareness and understanding of how ACOs can improve care delivery.
