CMS Announces Competition for the Development of a MIPS Mobile Platform to Support Provider Education and Outreach

On May 2, 2016 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a competition for the development of a Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Mobile Platform to support provider education and outreach. CMS is launching this mobile challenge to find innovative ways of improvising communication to educate physicians, support staff, health organization leadership, data vendors, and others impacted parties on MIPS. The top 3 to 5 winners for Phase I of the challenge will be provided with monetary cash prize totaling $10,000 per winner. The Phase II final challenge winner is eligible to win a cash prize totaling $25,000.

MIPS was established through the Medicare Access CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015. The MIPS program combines parts of the Physician Quality Reporting System, the Value-Based Payment Modifier and the Medicare Electronic Health record (EHR) Incentive Program into one single program that assesses the performance of MIPS eligible clinicians based on four performance categories: Quality, Resource Use, Clinical Practice Improvement Activities and Advancing Care Information.
