UPDATED: CMS Announces “Slight” Adjustments to 2017 Final MIPS Scores

UPDATE: CMS statement on the 2017 Performance Feedback Update is available here.

On September 13, 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that they made adjustments to some 2017 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) final scores. These changes have been described as “slight.” CMS is encouraging clinicians to login to the Quality Payment Program website and review their scores to determine if any changes were made. MIPS participants can request a targeted review if they believe errors have been made in calculating their MIPS score. CMS has extended the targeted review deadline to October 15, 2018 at 8:00pm (EDT).

The changes in MIPS final scores resulted from errors identified by CMS through the targeted review process. Once CMS identified these errors, they revised the scores of the impacted clinicians. CMS then had to re-apply the budget neutrality adjustment which impacted some scores of clinicians who were not directly impacted by the initial correction.

CMS is advising clinicians that need additional assistance to reach out to the Quality Payment Program Service Center by phone at 1-866-288-8292, (TTY) 1-877-715-6222 or by email at QPP@cms.hhs.gov, or contact their local technical assistance organization for no-cost support.
