CMMI Posts Additional Resources for VBID and the Part D Payment Modernization Model

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) has posted additional resources for two of the current payment models. On April 2, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) held a webinar providing an overview of both the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) and Part D Payment Modernization models. Materials from the webinar, including a recording, have since been posted.

CMS also released a CY 2021 frequently asked questions document to provide additional information about the Part D Payment Modernization program flexibilities and model design.

The Medicare Advantage (MA) VBID Model is testing how different innovative components contribute to improved care and lower costs for MA beneficiaries. The Part D Payment Modernization model is a five-year model that CMS expects to begin in 2020 and is intended to create new incentives for plans, patients and providers to choose drugs with lower list prices to address rising costs in Part D. Additional information can be found on the CMMI webpage.
