Clinicians can use their 10-digit National Provider Identification Number to check their 2017 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligibility on the Quality Payment Program website. Clinicians included in MIPS in 2017, will need to decide whether to report as an individual or with a group. Clinicians exempt from MIPS in 2017, will not need to do anything else for MIPS this year.
Clinicians will participate in MIPS in 2017 if they bill Medicare Part B more than $30,000 a year AND see more than 100 Medicare patients a year.
CMS is reviewing eligibility at two different times for the 2017 Performance Year. CMS completed the first review in December 2016 by examining claims from September 1, 2015 through August 31, 2016 and Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership (PECOS) data. CMS will complete the second review in December 2017. They will examine Medicare Part B claims data from September 1, 2016 through August 31, 2017 and PECOS data.
