Congress Passes the LAB Act

December 20, 2019

On December 19, Congress passed the Laboratory Access for Beneficiaries (LAB) Act as part of an end-of-year spending package signed into law by the President on December 20. The LAB Act has been a priority for a number of stakeholders in the laboratory / diagnostic community and has two major provisions:

1. The next PAMA data reporting period has been delayed for a full year, now starting on January 1, 2021.
2. MedPAC must conduct a study to review the methodology that CMS has implemented for determining the private payor-based CLFS rates under PAMA.
